I want to be.......

d'Lush Cafe, March 2013

 

If you find yourself around Wexford in March pop into d'lush Cafe in the Wexford Arts Centre and have a look a the 'I want to be......' exhibition there. This exhibition is the result of a collaboration between myself, The Arts Department of Wexford County Council (under their Artist in the community scheme), Wexford Arts Centre and ten local teenagers. (Jamie Barrett, Leanne Brennan, Michelle Colfer, Teresa Colfer, Rosie Conran, Olivia Gangus, Garry Kavanagh, Lucy Mc Loughlin, Caoimhe Power and Megan Whitty).  I was kindly assisted by artist Lara Domenech Sanchez. The group made fantastic self portraits and displayed with them their I want to be.... card. They then, taking inspiration from Candy Chang's Before I die project,  asked that visitors to the show filled in their own card and hang it on one of the many wooden pegs we placed around the walls. The result is amazing. Every time we go in there are more and more cards filled in - the cafe is literally filling up with dreams. 

It is such a joy for those of us involved in the project but also visitors to the cafe to read through the answers which range from really sad to totally hillarious and everything in between.
